McDonald's has confirmed it has axed a popular menu item - just two years after making it a permanent fixture at its restaurants, leaving some Aussies devastated.

The Chocolate Soft Serve was initially trialled in 2021, with the fast-food giant announcing it was rolling out the tasty treat nationwide in December 2023 after a hugely successful testing period.

But following rumours on social media that the tasty treat had been "quietly removed" from menus, Macca's has now confirmed the disappointing news.

"At Macca's, we're committed to serving great tasting, great value food that Aussies know and love," a spokesperson told news.com.au.

"As part of this review, we've said goodbye to the Chocolate Soft Serve across restaurants nationwide from March 31, 2026."

While the burger giant insisted there were "still plenty of delicious desserts to enjoy" when ordering at McDonald's, a lot of Aussies were left less than impressed by the decision.

"Am I the only one who loved the chocolate?" one asked in response to the news.

"No announcement, no warning, just quietly vanished. Not sure if it's officially discontinued or just pulled for now, but it's not looking good."

Not everyone was saddened by the sudden axing, with some stating they "never liked" the flavour.

"Oh that's fine, I only have vanilla anyways, no big deal," noted one.

"It was disgusting," added someone else.

The announcement comes after McDonald's launched a KPop Demon Hunters-inspired McFlurry, featuring creamy vanilla soft serve topped with brown sugar sauce and chewy tapioca pearls.
