Spring brings fresh opportunities to savour authentic, sustainable flavours from Malaga's most naturally productive countryside. Mercado Agroalimentario de Coin transforms into a sweet-smelling centre for cheese fans on Sunday, March 15.
Visitors can explore the tastes and aromas of more than 50 varieties of artisanal cheeses, with fully natural ingredients, mostly crafted from goat's and sheep's milk, and are absolutely irresistible.

The traditional methods employed in crafting these products honour the region's heritage dating back to the Romans and Moors and the fertile terrain that powers them. Renowned producers including Cabraline, El Arquillo, El Pastor del Torcal, El Pastor del Valle, El Pinsapo, La Hortelana, Montes de Malaga, Rey Cabra, and Santa María del Cerro showcase fresh, semi-cured, and long-aged options alongside other handcrafted dairy delights. Many boast prestigious international accolades and often export to Michelin-starred restaurants, revealing Malaga's exceptional cheese-making excellence.
This March edition launches the warmer season at the market, which runs on the third Sunday monthly (skipping summer for natural reasons). Organised by Asociación Quesos de Malaga in partnership with Coin Council, the event reinforces support for local artisans, small enterprises, and sustainable, high-quality food from the Guadalhorce Valley.
Other than cheeses, stalls brim with seasonal giants of fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan breads, pure local honeys, the very best in olive oils, and Guadalhorce Valley produce. These treasures help create nutritious, balanced meals rooted in proximity and tradition.

Where this fits
Openings get the attention, but it is the second and third year that decide whether a restaurant becomes part of a city's routine.

The bottom line
None of this settles the wider question. It does make one thing harder to ignore: the pressure in the dining room has shifted, and others will have to respond to it.
